Poetry Forms I Adore

Published by

on

A nine line poem that begins with a one-syllable line and builds to a nine-syllable line or the reverse.

Awe

Strolling

Breathing in

Noticing new

Tracks in the fresh snow

Pondering, who was here?

Pausing, breathing in sweet scenes

Noticing bunny’s secret place

Strolling away, breathing, leaving peace

Mesostic Poem

A mesostic is a poem arranged so that a vertical phrase intersects lines of horizontal text. It is similar to an acrostic, but with the vertical phrase intersecting somewhere in the midst of the line, as opposed to the beginning of each line.

INVITATIONS by Joyce Uglow

I am Lady Lighthouse.

Standing tall, my lights revolve,

Revealing risks of

Rocky dangers.

I am Lantern, lighting the way.

My bright beams guide,

Calming fears of

Rough waters.

I am Beacon, brightening your path.

My trusty torch

Illuminating invitations of

Refuge.

Tall and revolving, lighting and brightening:

Everything is alright.

A safe harbor awaits.

You are welcome here.

Jump Rope Chant
RECESS by Joyce Uglow

Whirling, turning, jumping to the beat,

Twirling ropes – a recess treat.

Singing, clapping, putting on a show,

Chanting rhymes – songs we all know.

Swirling, twirling, hopping in on cue,

Taking turns – jump in, then through.

Twisting, leaping, trying a new move,

Making friends – feeling the groove.

Ringing, ringing, our recess ends.

Linking hands  – Now forever friends!
