Chickadee is the kick-off poem for this year’s STUCK Bumblebee Poetry Challenge co-hosted by Cindy Mackey and me. This kenning is a poetry form that puts a figurative compound word to work in place of an ordinary noun.
The chickadee is an excellent Earth Day representative because it is a key indicator species that highlights ecosystem health. Its survival directly depends on native plant biodiversity, as a single clutch requires thousands of caterpillars. These hardy, smart birds showcase resilience and symbolize the important connection between human neighborhoods, their habitats, and a healthy environment. Join us for the STUCK Bumblebee Poetry Challenge at https://jpuglow.substack.com/ where you can read poetry by featured authors, get writing tips, and participants who comment on the Storied Ink Substack posts get entered in a prize drawing that will be announced on April 30. All forms of poetry are welcome. Let’s write!
